MedIRA (Medical Image Recognition and Annotation) is a core project of the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), under the Department of Computer Vision and Image Understanding (CVIU) and the Assistive Infocomm and Media for Health Monitoring and Rehabilitation (AIM) programme. The MedIRA team is focused on developing a variety of medical image-based computer aided diagnosis systems to assist healthcare providers in diagnosing illnesses.

The fundamental strategy underlying our development is founded on our knowledge-based medical image analysis platform. Using this approach, we are able to process images from various modalities, including, but not limited, to computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, cellular microscopy, retinal fundus stereo photography and lens gonioscopy.

By harnessing and synergizing our key competencies in image processing, statistical learning and classification, the platform acts as a foundation for computer aided diagnosis. Through close collaborative efforts and consultations with clinicians, medical researchers and healthcare providers, we aim to develop state of the art, clinically-useful automated systems that will have a positive impact on the diagnosis of illnesses.
